Windows 10 Support

Microsoft will end support for Windows 10 this October of 2025.
What does this mean for your business?

First, no more free updates...including security fixes. You know those weekly Microsoft updates? Many of those fix vulnerabilities that malware takes advantage of. So, starting on October 15th, each day your computer goes online, it is more susceptible to malware. History has shown that when an operating system gets retired and is no longer updated (Microsoft, Apple, or Linux), in about a month we see spikes of malware problems arise in those computers. To keep your business IT secure, maintaining updated operating systems is part of the process.

Many "line of business applications" will only be supported on supported operating systems. If you call support for your LOB apps with a problem, and they find you're running on an outdated OS, they will ask you to update or replace your systems. And they'll be happy to help you once you've done that. Eventually their software may stop working on an outdated operating system. Those LOB apps are important to your business, so keep your systems updated.

Security software such as endpoint protection gets updated rapidly, and eventually it will stop working on outdated operating systems. Same with a lot of backup software.

We, your IT People, rely on your systems being updated so we can best protect you.

As part of our services for our managed clients, we have started preparing lists to send you that note your assets, and age of computers. Computers that are "new enough to be upgraded to Windows 11, we will do our best to upgrade those. Generally, computers less than 6 years old may be able to be upgraded, keeping all data and settings. Computers older than that, we will send quotes to replace those. Microsoft requires computers to have an 8th generation CPU or newer in order to run Windows 11, and there are other hardware requirements.

Pricing and availability of new computers...The supply chain is likely to vary quite a bit in upcoming months. We have some wholesalers and distributors taking advantage of the tariffs to add prices on their existing stock. We're trying to purchase in bulk and keep our office stock full. The earlier and more bulk we purchase now, will save money. And as we get towards mid-summer, the demand for new Windows 11 computers will skyrocket and cause supply to diminish more and prices to go up even more. Our advice is to get this taken care of much sooner, than later.
